I’m running for Corpus Christi City Council District 2 because this community is personal to me. I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, and I learned the meaning of service from my father, Ben Mostafa Bighamian, a small business owner who believed in showing up for people when they needed help. After he was murdered during a robbery in 2014, I made a commitment to continue that legacy. For the past 12 years, I’ve worked with families affected by homicide and domestic violence while supporting local businesses, seniors, children, and community organizations. Professionally, I come from construction and project management, giving me hands-on experience with budgets, infrastructure, contractors, timelines, and accountability. I’m running because representation should begin with listening. I want District 2 residents to have a real voice in the decisions affecting their streets, safety, neighborhoods, water, and quality of life.
My focus would be on: We need to Compare all available water supply options before committing residents to major long term costs. Expanding water reuse, conservation, and our plumbing infrastructure leaks reduction Requiring clear public information on project costs, rate impacts, timelines, and who is paying. Reviewing how large industrial users and residential customers share the cost of the system. Making sure environmental, engineering, and financial studies are available for public review before major decisions are made. Collaborating with our industry and residence to come up with an effective plan that’s beneficial for all parties
District 2 residents should be able to see exactly what happens after they report a problem not submit a request and then wonder where it disappeared to. My goal is to build on the City’s existing CCM reporting app and use it as the foundation for a more transparent neighborhood accountability system. Residents should be able to track a street, sidewalk, lighting, drainage, or infrastructure request from beginning to end: when it was submitted, when it was inspected, what department is handling it, where the money is coming from, when it is expected to be fixed, and when the work is actually completed. For larger projects, residents should also be able to see the budget, contractor, timeline, and any change orders. Because really if we can track a pizza from the oven to our front door, we should be able to track a pothole, sidewalk, or streetlight repair. 🍕😅 See it → Report it → Track it → Fix it.
One of my priorities would be creating a Community Services Coalition that brings the organizations working on homelessness, shelters, animal rescue, food assistance, mental-health services, faith-based outreach, and other community needs to one table. I want us to first create a complete inventory of every organization operating in these areas what services they provide, who they serve, what resources they have, and where services overlap. The goal is not to eliminate good organizations doing good work. It is to reduce duplication, identify gaps, encourage organizations to share resources, and make sure everyone knows who is responsible for what. The coalition would establish: One centralized directory of participating organizations and services. Regular coordination between shelters, rescues, nonprofits, faith organizations, healthcare providers, outreach groups, and government agencies. Clear referral pathways so residents aren’t sent from organization to organization looking for help. Shared goals and measurable outcomes. Greater transparency about funding, services provided, capacity, and results. Opportunities for organizations doing similar work to collaborate or consolidate resources when it makes sense. We have a lot of people trying to help. The question is: are we helping together? I don’t want ten organizations unknowingly trying to solve the same piece of a problem while another need goes untouched. I want one table, one coordinated strategy, and many organizations working together toward measurable results.
